Priscilla Candies to close

In many ways, it represents what you might call “Old Lawrence.” But Priscilla Candies, which started in Lawrence in the 1920s may shut its doors for good this April as the current owners prepare for retirement.

    Say it aint so…I could take Cedar Crest leaving, I could take Lawtons leaving, but not Priscilla’s Noooooooooooooo. Best damn milk chocolate in the world. I will end my accounting carreer today and start making the chocolate please don’t close. Can I buy the recipe and open Priscilla’s II?

    You can buy the business outright if you’re so inclined. The owners said they’d even stay on for a month or two to train a new owner. It is very much a trade and learned skill. These guys clearly know what they’re doing.

    I can’t help but think they could do a lot better in the marketing department, though. These days it’s all about marketing and packaging. They’ve definitely got a high-end product it’s just a matter of getting it into a high-end market.

    Seriously, candy from Priscilla’s has always been such a treat. It certainly will be missed. All the landmarks from Lawrence are leaving us. How sad.
